5 Colleges That Will Pay You to Study in South Africa

Earning while you learn is the best of both worlds. Especially if you are looking to do both but not sure which one to start with first. Learnerships are a great way to learn a brand new skill and get a monthly incentive while you’re learning.

In today’s post, we will be going over some colleges in South Africa that offer learners a stipend while studying at their institution.

1. SA Business School

SA Business School offers sales and marketing learnerships that are designed to relate directly to a career in sales and marketing. The business school offers both funded and unfunded learnerships from National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) Level 1  to Level 6. Their qualifications are accredited by the relevant SETA and last up to 12 months.

2. TvetSA (Thandeka Vocational Education Trust)

 Another South African college that gives learners an incentive is TvetSA. This college has several learnership programs ranging from a general certificate in clothing manufacturing. To a national certificate in wholesale and retail distribution. Most of their courses are 12 months long and are nationally recognized qualifications. 

 TvetSA’s qualifications infuse practical knowledge and work experience. The learning programs can be done on-site, in-factory, or online via a virtual classroom.

3. Gauteng City College

Gauteng City College (GCC) is a private initiative that's registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).  Additionally, it is accredited by all 21 SETA’s and other bodies.

GCC - Gauteng City College- offers learnerships and vocational training to its students in hopes of creating work for the youth, and placing the learned youth in the corporate world. 

After completing your learnership at Gauteng City College (GCC)  with the relevant SETA you will get:

• An Attendance certificate
• Qualification Certificate
• Statement of Results

4. Quest College of Technology

Based in Midrand, Quest College offers short courses and online learnerships to students interested in upskilling from home. All you have to do is set up an account, choose your course, and start studying online. The Best part is that all their certificates are not limited to a certain period, rather they are valid for a lifetime!

5. Gert Sibande Tvet College (Skills Academy)

Situated in Standerton, the Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre under the Gert Sibande Tvet College offers learnerships, apprenticeships, short skills programs, and more. 

Skills Academy offers different learnerships that require Grade 9 or higher. However, some of their learnerships need matric or level 4.
