Thuthuka Bursary Fund 2026 Applications | Requirements & Dates

Aspiring Chartered Accountants, take note! The prestigious Thuthuka Bursary Fund is officially open for applications for the 2026 academic year. If you’re looking for accounting bursaries still open, this is your chance to secure funding for your studies.

The Thuthuka Bursary Fund, managed by the Thuthuka Education and Upliftment Fund (TEUF) in partnership with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), is dedicated to helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their dream of becoming Chartered Accountants (CAs).

Requirements for Thuthuka Bursary

This bursary is strictly available to students pursuing a Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification. That means if you’re interested in a different field of accounting, this bursary won’t be applicable. However, for students who meet the following criteria, this is an opportunity not to be missed:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must be in Grade 12 or have already completed Grade 12.
  • You must have strong Mathematics results (Mathematical Literacy is not accepted).
  • You must intend to study at a South African university accredited by SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants).
  • Your household income must meet the financial need criteria as determined by NSFAS.
  • You must have written or plan to write the National Benchmark Test (NBT).

Required Supporting Documents

To ensure your application is considered, you’ll need to upload the following:

  • Signed consent form (Download it from the application portal)
  • Your ID document
  • ID documents of parents/guardians
  • Parents’/guardians’ salary slips
  • ID copies of all persons dependent on family income
  • Final Grade 11 results (for current Grade 12 learners)
  • Final Grade 12 results (if you have already completed school)
  • University acceptance letter (if you’re in Grade 12 and have been provisionally accepted)
  • Full university transcript (if you’re already enrolled at university)

Additional Notes

  • This is not a loan; however, it comes with an obligation to sign a funding contract with both TEUF and NSFAS.
  • The bursary cannot be used to settle existing student loans or debts.
  • Selection is based on academic performance, financial need, and NBT results.
