Wits Applications for 2026 Are Now Open

Wits 2026 applications are now open. If you have been thinking about applying to the University of the Witwatersrand for the 2026 academic year this is your chance. Whether you're tracking your application status, using the self-service portal, or checking the application fee here’s how to do it. 

Submitting an online application for undergraduate studies is simple if you follow the right steps. Be sure to keep an eye on important dates, especially the closing deadline, to secure your spot at one of South Africa’s top institutions. 

Wits Application Dates for 2026 

Applications Open: March 1, 2025  

Applications Close: 

Faculty of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Audiology, Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology, and Bachelor of Fine Arts: June 30, 2025  

  • All other programs: September 30, 2025  

Note: Late applications are generally not accepted, so ensure you submit your application before the respective deadlines.  

Application Fee 

  • A non-refundable application fee of R100 is required for South African citizens.  

  • International applicants are required to pay a fee of R700.  

How to Apply: Wits University Application 2026 

  1. Online Application Portal: Visit the official Wits online application portal to begin your application if you are an undergraduate.  

  1. Create an Account: Register with a valid email address and create a password.  

  1. Complete the Application Form: Fill in your personal details, academic history, and program choices.  

  1. Upload Required Documents: Ensure you have the following certified documents ready for upload:  

  • South African ID or passport (for international students)  
  • Final Grade 11 results and Grade 12 latest results (if currently in Grade 12)
  • Proof of payment for the application fee  

Admission Requirements 

  • Undergraduate Programs: Admission is based on the Admission Point Score (APS) calculated from your final Grade 12 results. Each program has specific APS requirements and subject prerequisites.  
  • Postgraduate Programs: Requirements vary by program and may include relevant undergraduate qualifications, work experience, and additional assessments.  

Additional Information for International Applicants 

  • Proof of English proficiency may be required if previous studies were not in English.  
  • A valid study visa is necessary before registration.

How to Track Your Wits Application Status 

To track your Wits University application status, follow these steps: 

1. Use the Wits Self-Service Portal 

You can check your application status online through the Wits Student Self-Service Portal. 

2. Login to Your Account 

  • Enter your Person Number (student number) and password. 

  • If you forgot your password, use the reset option or contact Wits support. 

3. Navigate to the Application Status 

  • Once logged in, click on "Student Centre". 

  • Look for the "Admissions" section. 

  • Your current application status will be displayed (e.g., "Under Review," "Accepted," "Rejected," or "Waiting List").
