About Vulamathuba
Vulamathuba Empumelelo, the community and social development arm of Communicare Social Enterprise, was established to deliver developmental interventions to Communicare tenants and non-tenants residing within the Cape Town Metro. Vulamathuba’s overall objective is to create opportunities for economic growth among participants by fostering the principle of economic mobility through education, skills, training, and development interventions.
We are seeking an individual with an interest in social work, counselling and group dynamics. The candidate will participate in a full-time, accredited 12-month learnership.
About the Learnership
§ The course consists of 30% intensive theory work delivered by an accredited training provider and 70% of workplace training. The learner will be declared competent upon successfully completing all coursework and the completion of Portfolio of Evidence.
§ The learner will receive responsibilities in line with the qualification, to complete set outcomes as part of the workplace training and the learner will be supervised and mentored by a highly trained Social Worker.
§ Social Counselling Work learners will be placed in a host organisation supporting ECDs in Phillipi and will be required to travel as such.
§ The learner will receive a monthly stipend.
Responsibilities:
§ Provide assistance and support to Social Workers with the rendering of a social work service about the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities through the relevant programmes.
§ Assist Social Workers to attend to any other matters that could result in, or stem from, social instability of any form.
§ Perform administrative support functions in support of Social Workers as required by the job.
Requirements
§ Must have obtained a Matric certificate (Grade 12), and be unemployed
§ Commit to the Learnership Programme for 12 months
§ Must be a South African Citizen
§ Be available to start in March 2026 until February 2027
§ Must be able to speak fluent English and any other South African language
§ Must have experience in community work
§ Possess good interpersonal skills and willing to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
§ Preference will be given to applicants who have previously completed one of Vulamathuba’s Economic Mobility Programmes (Matric, Job Readiness, Skills Programme, etc.)
§ Be enthusiastic, driven, and willing to learn
§ A Valid Driver’s license will be advantageous
