SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL PARKS GENERAL WORKERS AND EPWP PROGRAMME: SKILLED ENVIROMENTAL MONITORS AND OTHER VACANCIES
General Worker
A vacancy currently exists in the Garden Route National Park: Tsitsikamma Section, for a General worker in the Conservation Department. The successful candidate will report to the Sergeant Ranger.
Location: Garden Route National Park
Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate (Std 10) required or equivalent.
- 1-2 years general worker experience and exposure in nature conservation related work (alien clearing, integrated fire management that includes fire management and law enforcement).
- Driver’s License.
- Basic knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Must be physically fit.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance and inspection.
- Good Hygiene practices.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards relevant to the field.
- Knowledge of First Aid.
- Provide own transport to and from workplace.
- Perform Standby duties on weekends and Public Holidays.
Additional Requirements:
- Chainsaw and Brush cutter competencies.
- Experience with machinery and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic conservation duties of physical and routine natures that includes the implementation of invasive plant, alien animal and natural soil erosion and rehabilitation management programs.
- Fire protection, which include wildfire suppression, conducting prescribed burns and preparation of fire breaks.
- Infra-structure maintenance including buildings, roads, hiking trails, day walks, footpath, gardens, tourism facilities and signage.
- General Maintenance and upkeep of terrain, gardens, staff villages etc.
- General forestry duties.

EPWP Programme: 2 X Skilled Environmental Monitors
EPWP Employment opportunity currently exists for 2 x Skilled Environmental monitors within Groenkloof National Park. The above-mentioned position is a fixed-term contract up to the end of 31 March 2026.
The appointed participant or Environmental Monitor will be paid a wage rate of R311.00 per day as per Expanded Public Works Programme rates.

Requirements
- Grade 12.
- Cleaning experience of 1 to 2 years.
- Stock Taking experience.
- Knowledge of First Aid and Occupational Health and Safety
- Good hygiene practices.
- Punctual, neat and responsible.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Comply with OHS regulations.
Responsibilities
- Daily cleaning of offices, ablutions, reception areas, passages, and open areas.
- Preparing boardrooms and meeting areas and set -up refreshments.
- Report abnormalities and ensure it is rectified.
- Handle lost properties in terms of procedures.
- Emptying waste bins and transporting waste materials to designation collection areas.
- Control cleaning materials in possession.
- Maintain a high level of cleaning standards.
- Adhere to emergences and relieve schedules when requested by the supervisor.
- Replenish consumables items (Toilet papers, paper towels, soap, etc).
- Assist with stock issuing and receiving and do stock taking.
- Assist with other ad hoc tasks as required by supervisor
